Thanks to those individuals who have already voted for Wrath Passion, please continue to vote - as you can imagine the economical situation is always a pain in the ass for a one-man band :smt025

'Buddy voting' is one word for it, ok, it's two words. 'Trying to con one of the good guys out of £100 he has put up out of his own pocket because of his passion for metal' are 26 other words for it.

These 'battle of the bands' things attract con artists who can smell easy money. They either vote for themselves over and over again, or get their mates to help out with the swindle.

There's good reason why businesses say no employees or their families can enter their competitions, it's to stop the flim-flam artists.

Have a look at the membership list, 15 new members in the past 2 days. How many votes were cast? What a coincidence. I've never seen such a rush to join the board, perhaps all Toby's hard work and dedication is paying off at last.

This could all be coincidence of course and maybe Wrath Passion are so good that they have attracted 16 advocates from the underground fans around the world, including Costa Rica (a record!), in which case I wholehearted apologise.

Is the term for this a spammer or a scammer? I'm not up on Internet jargon.

I think it's somewhat sad too if that's the case, but it's impossible to avoid it in this kind of deal, I guess.

Edit: What I really mean is that these kind of contests are always won by the participant with the most friends, which may not always coincide with the most deserving. Then again, the voters may be genuine and all, who am I to judge?

For friends of a band to do this (assuming it's not one guy voting 15 times) is dishonest in my book. It's not what the money was intended for (i.e. who has the most mates). They know that, which makes it a con.

Isn't the poll a bit light as well? Here's a recap of the nominations...

Blunt Force Trauma because they want to record an EP

Slapendehonden because they want to record a single and got ripped off.

Immension because they are skint

Rigor Sardonicous because they are skint and one of the guys need hand surgury.

Wrath passion because he is skint and his 15 mates won't lend him the any money.

Hylur because they are Icelandic.

Honey for Christ because they have made the grand total of £100 in 12 years (that's doom!)

Korsrol becuase he needs a new goat.

The Afternoon Gentlemen because they are skint.

Red VIII because they are skint.

Heavy Goods Vehicle because the bassist needs real ale and lots of it

rigor sardonicous is the only band that deserves this. i think wrath passion should be disqualified. they clearly had all of their friends sign up just to vote. i wouldn't be surprised if they made a myspace bulletin with a link. beerman got it right. and to the gent that says his band deserves it because they got ripped off, welcome to music. it happens. don't put up more than you can afford to lose, and keep a sharper eye in the future. RS have been at this longer, and have been dicked around more than any other band up there. toby, i sincerely hope that this poll isn't the only thing you're going on to make your decision.

To be honest, my need to explain myself are minimal but after the engagement on this post I will just quote the mail I got from Toby when the voting started:

"Your band has been picked to possible win 100 quid.
Get people to come and vote (they need to sign up here, but it is free like and I don't spam!)"

Well the bold red text is emphasised by me and I think it address all your concerns right on point.

PS. another quote: "...a public vote and the winner will be sent the money..."

Ergo, it's a PUBLIC vote not a member exclusive poll. If my crime is to strictly follow the pre-agreed rules/info given then I'm guilty. Please check the rules before the fantasy runs completely away - remaking the reglement afterwards and during a competition is beyond any description. So to the poster above here "zz", please show me where in the info about this poll such normal activity as a myspace bulletin is listed as illegal? and so on and so on...

Best Regards,
Daniel.

Dudes... voted for Wrath Passion cause I support the band..allright? if you cant deal with that its pretty much your problem.

Wrath passion deserves this as much as other bands do.. but obviously there is a reason why people are voting for Wrath passion that much ... think about it!;)

My apologies. I hadn't realised Toby had asked you to get your supporters to vote for you. I thought you were just some carpet baggers out to take the money and then we'd never see you again. My mistake.

No problem Beerman! I guess all participants got the same mail so at least the bands shouldn't be confused about how to move ahead.

Eh, anyone know how long the poll lasts?

Norway is small as a cock. I don't know too much about the Norwegian underground, though. Even though my band is a part of it...

I don't think getting people to vote is a bad thing for two reasons;

One - It encourages the band to promote themselves and make contact with their fanbase, you can argue that this fanbase is built up solely of faceless people on myspace etc - however how many of them would bother to sign up to a forum and vote? Only people who have an active interest in the band will do this.

Two - there are about 5 regular posters on this forum, if outsite voting was somehow disabled and policed, pretty much no one would vote.

As Daniel said all bands did get the same email and lets be honest it isn't like Wrath Passion are winning by 100s of votes.

With regards to the list being kept small, this was a conscious decision.

5 Bands are easy to check out and decide who should win, the entire list, not so much.

yayaya.
i think this contest should be won by the band that's most deserving. that's all. i'm not impressed by a bunch of your friends taking 3 minutes out of their lives to register. obviously, not my money so i don't really have any say. i just thought it'd be nice if a band that deserved this money won it, that's all. best of luck. adios.

What makes one band more deserving than another though? Surely that is really subjective.

The the competition would have been me picking a band for a reason I deem to be most fitting. That isn't really a competition that is just me giving a band some money.
