Station Dysthymia – Only Gray Days, 2009

Posted in Review on February 5th, 2010 by beerman

Melodic Death Doom from Russia. Oh this is good. They produce melodies to die for and know how to touch them with extreme Death Doom. Think Remembrance meets Ataraxie. 9.5/10…

OM – God Is Good, 2009

Posted in Review on September 14th, 2009 by beerman

Om have a new drummer. He’s less flamboyant than the old one but he’s a safe pair of hands. 4 tracks, the 1st two are good, if more of the same stoner trance we’ve come to expect from OM, the 2nd 2 tracks are stunning. Although very good in its own right, I see this as experimentation which stands every chance of leading onto something very special indeed.

Memory Driven – Relative Obscurity, 2009

Posted in Review on September 12th, 2009 by beerman

This is an almost perfect blend of contemporary  Downer Rock and Prog Rock. The song structures are complex with melodic passages and riffs thickly surrounded by layers of guitar work. This is not an album for the casual listener it demands your attention or you will lose its plot, but it is well worth the effort and if you treat it with respect, it will become one of your favourite albums of the year.

Iron Man ‘I Have Returned’, 2009

Posted in Review on September 5th, 2009 by beerman

It’s an album of 2 halves with the best tracks sat in the 2nd half. The 1st half is heavily influenced by 70s and 80s American Rock bands and the 2nd half by 70s Black Sabbath Stoner Metal. Not sure the vocals work that well with this mix, even so it’s well recommended.

Dweller On The Threshold – Dweller On The Threshold, 2009

Posted in Review on August 26th, 2009 by beerman

Dark Ambient Noise and Extreme Death Doom. It gets darker and darker with every track until it becomes almost evil. This is an original blend of slow and extreme Death Doom and even slower mediaeval Gothic doom with it’s pipe organs and gurgling vocals.
